Lucille Tessa Blount Raining Bird (Moon Necklace Woman)

1936 -2012

Lucille Tessa Blount Raining Bird, (Moon Necklace Woman,) “Hawi Wanapi Wiya,” 76, of Frazer, Mont., died of natural causes Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Trinity Hospital in Wolf Point, Mont.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1936, to George Buck Blount Sr. and Clara (Red Eagle) Blount. During her childhood years she spent a lot of time with her family in Fort Kipp and Brockton. She especially enjoyed the summers there. She and her brother, Dean, went to Sunday School every Sunday, regardless of the weather, as requested by their mother. 

She graduated on May 22, 1954, from Frazer High School. She married Melvin Cox in 1955 and one child, Ona Vee, was born from this union. They later divorced. 

In 1962, she married Joe Raining Bird, Sr., and in this union eight children were born, Doyle James, Theron Dean, Jo Yvette, Clara Yvette, Darren Charles, Joseph Jr, Willard Claine and Sarelle Deanne. They later divorced.

She married Richard Blue Earth in 1980. They were married for many years and later divorced. 

Throughout the years, she worked various jobs. Her most memorable were working as a CHR, a Headstart bus driver and cook, a teacher’s aide and library aide at the Frazer School. During her later years, she served on the Fort Peck Tribes Enrollment Committee.

She was a member of the Cansuska Ladies Aide. She enjoyed going to Mission meetings. She attended many pow wows. 

She traveled  to various places, especially traveling to watch her children and grandchildren in sporting events. 

She made many quilts back in the day. A lot of her star quilts she made were for sporting event give-aways.

One of her favorite pastimes was playing bingo. She made sure she didn’t miss any of Frazer Bearcub’s sporting events. She was a true Frazer Bearcub fan.

She really enjoyed going to church and was a member of the Cansuska Presbyterian Church. She served as elder and deacon for many years. There were many a times she would say that she needed to get to church. She loved to sing. We will surely miss her singing. Her favorite Dakota Hymn was #75, “Welcome Voice.”

We will miss you Mom. You are home now. You will forever be in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Wayne Blount, Dennis Blount, Myron Joseph Blount, George Blount Jr., and and Marion Blount; and children JoYvette, Darren, Willard, and Doyle. 

Survivors include five children, Theron Raining Bird of Frazer, Lil’ Joe Raining Bird and his wife, Cicely, of Oswego, Ona Vee Windchief and his wife, Chris, of Wolf Point, Clara Raining Bird of Rocky Boy, and Sarelle Escarcega and her husband, Tom Jr. of Poplar; one brother, Harold Dean Blount and his wife, Sadie, of Frazer; four sisters, Pearl Four Bear of Brockton, Arlene Standing of Frazer, Marietta Four Bear of Brockton, and Rita Talks Different of Frazer; 18 grandchildren, Jocelyn, Jaropn, Marit, Claine, Christopher, Mabel, Lacey, Secret, Willy, Josephine, Wayne, Joseph, Kristian, Tomee, Kalli, Teagan, Hunter, and Haidyn; 11 great-grandchildren, Chirstian, Amira, Jaedyn, AnaLayna, Alyssa, Kalianna, Dallas, Kolbi, Leighton, Thomas III and Daunte; three adopted sisters, Leota Standing Bear, Luane Belcourt and Vera Iron Man; two adopted children, Warren Todd Jones Sr. and Thomas Ireland; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 2, at 10 a.m. at the Frazer High School Gym in Frazer, followed by interment in the Oswego Presbyterian Cemetery in Oswego.

Bell Mortuary of Glasgow was in charge of arrangements.
